Why use a social media QR code
Typing a username into a search box is slow and easy to get wrong, especially for handles with underscores or similar-looking names. A social QR code takes the visitor straight to your profile, where they can follow you in one tap. It suits business cards, packaging, shop windows, menus, product inserts and event badges.
Create it in QRinst
- Open the QRinst generator and choose Social under the More tab.
- Pick the platform from the list.
- Enter your handle or username, then download the code.
Handle, not the full web address
Enter just the username, such as yourbrand, without extra characters. QRinst builds the correct profile link for the platform you picked, so you do not need to remember each site's address format. Double-check capital letters and underscores, then scan the finished code and confirm it lands on the right profile, not a similarly named one.
One platform or several?
A social code points to a single profile. If you are active on several platforms, printing four small codes next to each other is cluttered and confusing. Two better options:
- Pick the one platform where you want followers most, and print only that code.
- Use a single link page that lists every profile, and create a normal link code for it. If the page will change often, make it a dynamic code (see static vs dynamic).
Design and print tips
Add a short call to action such as "Scan to follow" so people know why to scan, and keep a clear margin around the code. Match your brand colours only if the contrast stays strong (see QR code colours) and keep any logo small. Scan the printed result on two different phones before ordering a big print run, and size it according to the print size guide.
Which platform for which audience
Choose the profile your audience is most likely to use, not the one you post on most.
- Shops, cafés and creative brands: Instagram or TikTok, where photos and short video do the selling.
- Consultants, recruiters and B2B companies: LinkedIn, so people can see your background.
- Tutorials, music and long videos: YouTube.
- Community and support: Facebook pages or groups, or X for news and updates.
Make people want to follow
A bare code gives no reason to scan. Say what the profile offers: "Scan for daily specials", "Scan to see our latest work" or "Scan to follow for tips". Make sure the profile is ready before you print: a clear photo, a short bio that explains who you are, and a few recent posts. A visitor who lands on an empty page will not follow.
Keeping it working over time
A static code points to a fixed profile address. If you later change your username, the printed code may stop working, because it still holds the old handle. Choose a username you intend to keep before printing, and re-check the code once in a while. If you may rebrand, a dynamic code that you can repoint is safer.
